Third edition of the Freedom Forum

On May 18, the third session of the UCEMA Freedom Forum will be held, a virtual space designed for rotating groups of intellectuals to debate diverse and transcendental subjects, escaping from the classic juncture that prevents long-term thoughts. The encounter will take place under the title of “El mundo de las ideas, cómo se forman y se transmiten. Cómo su divulgación y narrativa se generaliza e impacta en la sociedad y en la economía” (The world of ideas, how they are formed and transmitted. How its disclosure and narrative is generalized and impacts on society and economy).

As always, the forum will be coordinated by the committee formed by Alberto Benegas Lynch(h), Julio Elías, Martín Krause and Edgardo Zablotsky, who will also participate in the sessions. The moderator will Dr. Zablotsky, in his capacity of President of the UCEMA University and Executive Director of UCEMA Friedman Hayek Center. With regard to the guests, this session of the Forum will have the participation of Iván Carrino, Enrique Ghersi, Pedro Isern, Ricardo López Murphy and Ramón Parellada.

Alberto Benegas Lynch

Alberto Benegas Lynch (h) He is Ph.D. in Economics and Ph.D. in Management Sciences, member of the National Academy of Economic Sciences and President of the Economic Sciences´ Section of the Buenos Aires National Academy of Sciences, author of 27 books, President of the Academic Council of the Freedom and Progress Foundation, he was tenured professor in five courses of the University of Buenos Aires, UBA: Economic Sciences, Engineering, Law, Sociology and in the Department of the History of Philosophy and Letters. Former Rector of ESEADE where he is a postgraduate professor, and he was economic advisor to the Buenos Aires Stock Exchange, the Argentine Chamber of Commerce, the Rural Society and to the Inter-American Council of Commerce and Production.

Iván Carrino

Iván Carrino: economist, writer, lecturer and professor. He currently directs Iván Carrino & Asociados, a research and economic and financial advisory company and is Deputy Director of the Master in Economics and Political Sciences of the University Institute ESEADE. He has a degree in Administration from the University of Buenos Aires, Master in Economics from the Austrian School of the University Rey Juan Carlos of Madrid and Master in Applied Economics from CEMA University, of Argentina. Is author of four books: Cleptocracia (2015), Estrangulados (2016), Historia Secreta de Argentina (2017) and El Liberalismo Económico en 10 Principios (2018).

Julio Elías

Julio Elías: Julio Elías is Ph.D. in Economics, University of Chicago and Director of the Master in Economics at UCEMA. Is also Executive Director of the UCEMA Center for Creativity Economics, and associate researcher of the Center of Excellence on Human Capital and Economic Growth and Development of the University of Buffalo. Was Visiting Fellow of the Becker Friedman Institute at the University of Chicago, and visiting professor at the Economics Department of the University of Western Ontario, Canada, among other achievements.

Enrique Ghersi

Enrique Ghersi: Lawyer, graduated in 1986 from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. Master in Civil Law from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. Professor at the University of Lima, Visiting Professor of the Francisco Marroquin University (Guatemala), Honorary Professor of the Lay University Vicente Rocafuerte (Guayaquil), Visiting Professor of the Higher School of Business Administration (Buenos Aires). Member of the Mont Pelerin Society, Member of the Royal Economic Society. Has been Deputy for Lima and Member of the Bicameral Budgetary Commission. Co-author of “El Otro Sendero” jointly with Hernando de Soto and Mario Ghibellini and author of numerous publications. Adjunct Scholar of the Cato Institute (Washington).

Pedro Isern

Co-founder and Executive Director of CESCOS. He is tenured professor of Contemporary History of the West (Department of International Studies, University ORT Uruguay). He is MSc. in Political Theory (London School of Economics), Master in Economics and Political Science (ESEADE, Argentina) and Bachelor in Political Science (University of San Andrés, Argentina). Has been researcher of the National Agency of Research and Innovation (ANII, Uruguay, 2017-2020). He is Ph.D. Candidate in Political Science (Catholic University of Argentina).

Martín Krause

Martín Krause is Ph.D. in Management, Catholic University of La Plata and economist from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA). He is professor at UCEMA, member of the Mont Pelerin Society, Adjunct Academic from the Cato Institute an of the Academic Council of the Freedom and Progress Foundation (Buenos Aires). He has received several awards and scholarships among which stands out the Freedom Project of John Templeton Foundation in 1999 and 2000. He has published several books: El Foro y el Bazar (UFM, 2014); Elementos de Economía Política (La Ley, 2007, joint with Adrián Ravier and Gabriel Zanotti), among others.

Ricardo López Murphy

Ricardo López Murphy: Degree in Economics from the National University of La Plata. Master of Arts University of Chicago. Professor at the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the University of La Plata and former professor of the University of San Andres. He was Minister of Economy and Infrastructure of the Argentine Republic, Minister of Defense of the Argentine Republic, Chief Economist of the Latin American Economic Research Foundation -FIEL-, National Director of Investigations and Fiscal Analysis of the Ministry of Economy, Cabinet Adviser to the President of the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic, Consultant and Advisor to the Central Bank of Uruguay, Consultant of the International Monetary Fund, United Nations Program for Development, the World Bank, IDB and ECLAC.

Ramón Parellada

Ramón Parellada: Guatemalan businessman and industrial chemical engineer with an MBA specialized in Finance. He is the treasurer of the Francisco Marroquin, is also member of the Board of Directors for the Center of Economic-Social Studies (CEES). Director of POLYTEC and of the Network of Friends of Nature and Explorations on Freedom, program co-sponsored by the UFM and Liberty Fund.

Edgardo Zablotsky

Edgardo Zablotsky: Edgardo Zablotsky is Ph.D. in Economics, University of Chicago and President of the Universidad del CEMA. He is a member of the National Academy of Education. Member of the Academic Council of the Freedom and Progress Foundation and of the Atlas Foundation (Argentina) and of the Advisory Council of Acton Institute (Argentina). He was recently incorporated into the Mont Pelerin Society. His interest is focused on two fields of research: non-welfare philanthropy and public policies carried out in the educational area in our country.
