In a letter of 1836 to Eugène Stöffels, Alexis de Tocqueville defined himself as a “liberal of a new kind". The purpose of this meeting will be to investigate the possible meanings of his formula and, particularly, the Tocquevillian reception of three traditions of thought: democratic, republican and liberal.

Enrique Aguilar

Enrique Aguilar has a doctorate in Political Sciences from the UCA and is Dean of the Faculty of Social, Political and Communication Sciences of UCA and Director there of the Doctorate in Political Sciences.  He is professor of Political Theory at UCA, UCEMA, Austral University and FLACSO.  Author of several publications on topics of his specialty, the title of his latest book is Alexis de Tocqueville. An introductory reading (Sudamericana, 2008). Has given courses and seminars in several academic centers of the country and abroad. He is Vice President of the Foundation José Ortega y Gasset Argentina. He directs the magazine Colección and is member of the editorial board of the journal of the Argentine Society of Political Analysis, Analecta Política (Colombia), Laissez-Faire (Guatemala) and Revista de Estudios Orteguianos (Madrid). He is also weekly columnist of the newspaper El Imparcial, of Madrid.
