Authoritarianism and global populism: the challenges of liberalism in Asia
Abhisit Vejjajiva, former Prime Minister of Thailand (2008-2011) in a new edition of the UCEMA Naumann Chair, 2021 edition, will offer an overview of the growing threat of authoritarianism and populism in Asia and the challenges that this development entails for those who strive for a free society.
Thai politician, leader of the Democrat Party, Prime Minister of the country from December 15, 2008 to August 5, 2011. He entered the Parliament for the fist time in 1992, being reelected in 1995 and 1996. He later returned in 2001 and 2005 for the Democrat Party in Thailand. During his political career he has been Government Spokesman, Vice-Secretary of the Prime Minister in Foreign Affairs and Minister of the Presidency. Abhisit studied at St John's College, Oxford, where he graduated as BA (first class honors) in Philosophy, Politics and Economics and later obtained a Master´s degree in Economics. In 1990 he also obtained a BA degree in Law from the University of Ramkhamhaeng. He has been a professor at the Faculty of Economics of Thammasat University and at the Royal Military Academy of Chulachomklao.
Responsable de las actividades de la Fundación Naumann para la Libertad en Argentina y Paraguay. Estudió humanidades en Berlín, Paris, Leipzig y Tübingen y obtuvo su doctorado de Filosofía en 2008 en la Universidad Humboldt de Berlín.
Ph.D. en Economía en la Universidad de Chicago. Miembro de Número de la Academia Nacional de Educación, ejerce los cargos de Profesor Titular y Rector de la Universidad del CEMA. El Dr. Zablotsky es Miembro del Consejo Académico de la Fundación Libertad y Progreso, de la Fundación Atlas (Argentina), y del Consejo Consultivo de la Fundación Acton (Argentina). Centra su interés en dos campos de research: filantropía no asistencialista y las políticas públicas llevadas a cabo en el área educativa en nuestro país.
