Cycle History and Freedom, October: The black legend of Roca, and Michael Polanyi´s journey to liberalism
Continuing with the classic History and Freedom Cycle, directed by Alejandro Gómez, in October UCEMA will count with the presence of Karina Mariani and Eduardo Fernández Luiña.
On October 14, at 1 p.m. Mariani will lecture on "Roca y la construcción de la leyenda negra" (Roca and the construction of the black legend), about the controversies raised by the man from Tucuman. There are no school events to remember him, nor holidays, he hardly ever appears in primary or secondary school books. The iconoclastic tide that set out to reinvent our history is an expression of the power that proposes the destruction of characters and symbols of our culture. The persistent emergence of a black legend is an act that aims to attack the civic bases to delegitimize them.
While on October 28 Eduardo Fernández Luiña, of the Institute Juan de Mariana, will present the life and work of Michael Polanyi, a Hungarian-British scholar who taught and worked in physical chemistry, economics and philosophy and that was also member of the Royal Society and the Merton College in Oxford. Later, the main contributions of this author in the world of Social Sciences will be developed.
