Rethinking Argentine history, with Alejandro Gómez
The 200 years of the Declaration of Independence of 1816 motivated the publication of Reflexiones sobre el Bicentenario (Reflections on the Bicentennial), by Alejandro Gómez, an essay designed to review the most important events in the country´s history. In this edition of Historia y Libertad the new edition of the book will be presented, through an interview between Gómez and Mercedes Colombres about this work, which in words of the author, is a “critical and analytical” work and an answer to many interpretations of conspiratorial history regarding the period 1816-2016, used to find in the other the flaws that originate in the deficiencies of oneself.
"In recent times, there have been more than few who from different perspectives have dedicated their time to the analysis of the historical evolution of our country…. Thus, we should not be surprised by all the arsenal of works of the revisionist current that have offered a new interpretation of the events of the past, that by telling only part of what has taken place, have introduced into the analysis a biased interpretation of events with the aim of projecting towards the past and the future a vision of our history that is only a story, as it distorts the past with the sole purpose of justifying the present", Gómez points out. "It has always been easier to blame others than to take responsibility for our own shortcomings", claims the author.
